Itinerary

DAY 1

We will pick you up from your hotel in Quito at 8:00 and depart to the northwest, After 30 minutes’ drive you’ll find an amazing “Middle of the World” . At 0° 0’ 0” latitude, here lies the earth’s equatorial line, where you can straddle the planet’s two hemispheres – a great photo op..!!

At this site, you’ll also have a chance to view the Mitad del Mundo (“Middle of the World”) monument, which was built to commemorate the French scientists who in the 1830s made history by determining the shape of the planet thanks to their studies at this location.

And just a few hundred meters away, you will visit the Intiñan Solar Museum, an amusing museum that provides outdoor exhibits of astronomical geography, a solar clock and explanations about the importance of Ecuador’s geographical location. To many people, what makes Intiñan even more interesting than the “official” equatorial monument is that you’ll have a chance to participate in several experiments, such as watching water go down a drain in a different direction when placed only inches away from either side of the equator, or balancing an egg on a nail, or using an ancient sundial, and more.

We will pass the western Andes, following the Calacalí – La Independencia Road, entering the cloud forest. We follow the street deeper into the cloud forest, finally arriving to Mindo.

We will have time for lunch and then we will decide about the activities to do

The places that you visit are flexible. The itinerary can be adapted to do other activities such as ziplining, cable car, chocolate, etc, depending on your interests.

After lunch we will visit the butterfly farm. Here you can see the 4 stages of the butterfly life, surrounded by 1200 colorful butterflies at the same time. While you are in the exhibition you can feed one or more of our 25 different species of butterflies. Our last activity will be the Chocolate factory. In this place we will learn about the process to make chocolate and of course you will enjoy it!!!

After an amazing day we will drive for 20 minutes to rest and have a tasty dinner at Sachatamia Rainforest Reserve

DAY 2

One of Sachatamia Lodge’s main attraction, is that it’s country house has been constructed in wood, complimenting the serenity of the surrounding ambiance. Sachatamia Lodge is a cozy and elegant rustic refuge, that offers the maximum in comfort while guests enjoy gourmet cuisine in complete union with the natural environment.

After the breakfast we will walk through a natural subtropical jungle, passing pristine rivers while enjoying and observing a variety of endemic trees, plant and wild flower species such as orchids, bromeliads, heliconias and anthuriums, among others

We will have time to relax at the pool or just fly by cable. The tour will take you on a journey of several series of zip lines connected by short walking trails.

After the lunch we will depart to Quito
